Honoring Roger D. Armstrong, Former Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods Executive Director

Roger Armstrong, Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods’ executive director from 2007 through 2016, will be honored with a proclamation at Monday night’s Oct 16, 2017 Denver City Council meeting. District 10 City
Councilman Wayne New will offer the proclamation.

The Council meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. and Roger’s friends are encouraged to attend and, if they wish, speak about his many accomplishments as an advocate for the people of Greater Capitol Hill.

INC will host its annual awards dinner and silent auction fundraiser on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Doubletree Hotel Stapleton. The primary focus of this dinner is to honor those who contribute to and improve Denver’s community and neighborhoods. We invite you to submit your written nominations for the following awards. You may submit online or by mail. Please include the name, neighborhood, nominee’s contact information and a concise reason for the nomination as it pertains to the criteria.

Matching Funds Up for Neighborhood Projects

Denver Environmental Health’s (DEH) Sustainable Neighborhoods Program is excited to launch the Sustainable Neighborhoods Matching Fund (SNMF) pilot project. SNMF will award up to $2,500 each to three projects in Denver neighborhoods that further community sustainability and well-being goals.

Applying organizations must be primarily made up of members who live and/or work in Denver. Preference will be given to Registered Neighborhood Organizations and neighborhoods-based groups, but place-based entries are also eligible (including business improvement districts, businesses’, and non- and for-profit organizations).

School sits on former open space that activists want back — eventually

Two years after the Denver City Council cleared the way for a controversial land swap, children filed last month into a new elementary school built on former city-owned open space near Cherry Creek Reservoir.

But the Joe Shoemaker School’s opening hasn’t ended a legal fight by still-simmering Denver parks advocates over what they saw as an illegal giveaway of valuable park land, a charge disputed by city officials.
