Sustainability Committee Oct 29 2018
INC’s Urban Resilience and Sustainability Committee, INC’ newest addition to the roster met on Oct 29th. Attendees: George Mayl, Loretta Koehler, young woman (lost name) and Ernie Diedrich.
After introductions and explanations of the committee’s name (I. Definitions), we talked about the purpose of the committee (II. Purpose). Briefly, the committee’s work will
a. encourage/promote neighborhood/city resilience (can we bounce back from a shock?),
b. what do we do individually and collectively to become sustainable so people today as well as in the future have access to what is needed for a good life indefinitely into the future?
We’ll do this (III. Planning and activities) by 1) field trips..so we can see how Denver and neighborhoods encourage resiliency and sustainability. We’ll try for 1 visit every three months, 2) spotlights…we’ll spotlight resiliency and sustainability efforts in the area where INC meets…to inspire and celebrate, 3) resource/policy reviews…we’ll discuss and evaluate what’s being done with resource categories ( e.g., energy, water, food) as well as hold policy reviews to highlight an issue such as Denver’s green roof policy. All three elements will be seen through the lens of climate change, humanity’s current existential crisis.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday, January 30th at The Daniels Fund, room 138 from 6:30-8:00 pm where we’ll discuss Denver’s 80×50 Climate Change Action Plan and plan our first field trip to the GrowHaus…an answer to food deserts.
The meeting adjourned after some discussion of meeting times…we’ll try regularly scheduled meetings at the end of the month.
Respectfully submitted,
Ernie Diedrich, Chair URSC
