Dear Neighborhood leaders,

As a part of Denver’s overall affordable housing strategy, I have been working over the last year and a half with a broad coalition of stakeholders to revise the City’s Inclusionary Housing Ordinance (IHO).  The IHO, originally passed in 2002, requires medium-large for sale housing developments of more than 30 units to make 10% of their homes affordable to moderate-income families earning between $42,950 and $61,350 annually (family of 1 to 4).

In 2013, the Council approved the first round of amendments to add flexibility for owners of affordable homes created under the ordinance.  Guided by an economic study of Denver’s housing needs and best practices across the nation, this round of amendments will recalibrate the developer requirements to help build more homes and work in closer partnership with developers on a range of flexible options for doing so.

We invite your participation in the final public meeting regarding the proposed changes on Tuesday, July 15th from 6:00-7:30pm at the Blair Caldwell Library.

As community leaders and neighborhood advocates, we need your help in spreading the word about this important meeting and the proposed changes generally.  I have attached to this email 1) a flyer for the public meeting, 2) a newsletter article detailing some of the proposed ordinance revisions and meeting information, and a 3) shorter version of the newsletter article for a brief summary of the longer article.
