INC Youth Civic Engagement Awards
The awards review committee of Sally Kurtzman, Lowry; Myles Tangalin, Congress Park; and Mark Tabor, Baker met on Friday, March 1 and made the following grant distributions:

Consumption Literacy Project – mostly in Montbello, NE Park Hill, College View, Harvey Park
The UrbanSEED Project
Funding for student-directed planting and teaching of gardening March – June in 4 gardens. Channeling food waste into compost to build beautiful nutritious soil. Building community leaders by growing food together that is given to the community.Since 2020 have grown thousands of pounds of food for their families and others.

Athletics & Beyond – leadership and students all reside, attend school and work in Montbello. Funding for training, materials and program incentives in a 4-week Building Community Wealth mentorship on entrepreneurship, marketing, accounting, inventory etc. as a path to small business ownership.

Colorado Young Leaders – in several NEST neighborhoods
Funding for A Youth-led Community Service Event Shared Meal, partnered with Denver Urban Gardens to address the intersectional issues of food access and youth mental health. Will purchase garden planting equipment and food and will provide transportation so youth throughout the area can come together to break bread as an effort to fight continued isolation that permeates among people since COVID-19 pandemic.

Families Against Violent Acts – Montbello, Green Valley Ranch, Park Hill
Funding for “Heal the Hood” Resource Event on June 22 stipends for youth-group volunteers who participate as leaders while encouraging new youth to attend the event. Expected attendance 100+

Whittier Neighborhood Association – Plan for Whittier, Cole and Clayton
Transportation and lunch for 20-30 youth attending CDP neighborhood planning sessions at Ford/Warren Library in May and June learning about Asset Based Community Development tools and to draft a vision to be shared with CDB.
