INC Public Safety Committee July Update
Our INC Public Safety Committee met on June 23rd at 6:00 PM at DPD District 3 station. Our INC VP Ray Ehrenstein explained what INC is to the uninformed citizens in the room. Commander Montoya welcomed us and described the issues that the residents and officers face in District 3, the southeast part of Denver.
The principle complaints in the area are traffic and property crimes. The police work with RNOs to reduce crime through meetings, Facebook, and Nextdoor.
Following the Commander’s talk our guest speaker, Detective George Gray, spoke to us about the Graffiti problems in Denver. He described to us the different types of taggers and gangs. We were encouraged to report any graffiti sightings to 311 and also to the Denver Police. They cannot take action against a tagger without that police report. Of the 23,000 instances of graffiti in the last year only 900 were reported to the police. Please take the time to send in that report! An easy way to do this is to go on line at denvergov.org, then to Neighborhood Services, then to Police Department. Click on “Report Crime Now.”
Detective Gray entertained questions before we adjourned. Our Committee thanks Commander Montoya and Detective Gray for an interesting and informative meeting.
The next INC Public Safety Committee meeting will be held at DPD District 4 at 2100 S. Clay St. in southwest Denver. Everyone interested in public safety in Denver is encouraged to attend. We will be announcing the speaker for the meeting soon.
