Board Members Absent: Drew Dutcher, Loretta Koehler
Committee Chairs Present: Ean Tafoya, Greg Sorensen
Guests: Amy Duclos
The meeting was called to order by President George Mayl at 6:33pm.
President Mayl Introduced Amy Duclos who lives in the Stokes Place Green Bower Neighborhood. He is proposing her be Chair of INC Education Committee.
Amy spoke to the group mentioning that her children are a 6th grader at Merrill and a 12th grader at South. She is familiar with certain issues of construction as she and her husband own rental prosperities that they maintain. She pushed hard to bring attention to Merrill school officials that water fountains were producing brown, undrinkable water, that cracks in the playground blacktop caused a students broken foot and that temperatures in some classrooms exceeded 90 degrees. Drinking fountains were replaced with filtered water fountains and the blacktop is repaired. She still advocates for AC at Merrill stating her interest is self- serving for the good of her kids and other kids against the “Intractable bureaucracy of DPS.”
When asked about her knowledge of schools around the district she admitted her focus has been on her neighborhood schools primarily but was a major player in re-opening Byers (because we needed a DSST in this part of town) and is familiar with some other issues in the district. She was not familiar with benzene and soil problems at Elyria Swansea schools but was very familiar with the fact that 64 schools have galvanized pipes.
She holds an economic degree from UCLA and taught a program at CU Boulder for 5 years. Because of her experience she feels she can well represent both Charters and other schools, which is important to best, represent all INC neighborhoods.
When asked what her one year vision might be she said she needed more time to become familiar with INC and the history of the Education Committee.
Some INC Ex Comm member will connect her with Meg Schomp, former Chair.
Minutes – The Minutes of the December Ex Comm meeting were tabled pending additional information request from another member.
Treasurer’s Report – It was moved by Ernie and seconded by Hank to approve the December treasure report. Motion Carried.

– increasing PARC Budget (line 32) to $500 to purchase sandwiches for meetings.

Discussion focused on how INC can better represent itself to the public in ways that will bring recognition of our accomplishments, grow the membership and make connections with similar factions.
– Maggie said it would be good if Denver Media could store INC files but that would not change website speed.
