In announcing that that it would not go forward with their plan, the Zoo cited numerous reasons, none of which, of course, included questions raised by Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation or INC’s request for Denver City Council to conduct an in depth, fact-finding hearing to shed light on this complicated issue of major importance. Such a hearing would have likely determined that burning trash and manure was an inappropriate use in Denver’s parks. It is an industrial use which better belongs in an industrial zoned area away from the Zoo’s 4000 animals, the Zoo’s visiting school children, City Park visitors and the thousands of residents who surround the Park.
Zoo officials attributed the decision largely to a question of resources and money. They and prominent supporters acknowledged Friday that the system still faced a significant hurdle: getting the thing to work.
The zoo’s announcement left room for an outside partner to revive the plans by helping with costs and know-how. But officials made clear that the gasification system would not operate on the zoo’s campus, as had been planned.
Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation will partner again with the League of Women Voters of Denver to organize two election forums to be presented by Denver Decides through Denver 8TV for the very important November 3 school board and ballot issue elections
