From the Veeps Cubical – October
October has been a busy month for us at the INC. What I remember most are two gatherings. One at Prairie Park with the installation of a beautiful kiosk-sign which INC’s own Diana Helper has worked for decades to bring into being. She and John Helper with Eileen Abbattista have sung their way into our hearts with musical fund-raisers. UP’s Betsy Johnson Welty did the beautiful graphic design surrounding Diana’s text. Diana pointed out my photo on the east side of the sign.
Help has come from the University Park neighbors. And Councilman Charlie Brown came through with items to auction and a generous cash donation which put the project over the top. Park lovers from all over Denver gathered for the dedication on October 28, 2015 at the St. Paul Street/Buchtel intersection with the long stretch of natural prairie which is part of the little remaining visual evidence of what our part of the country looked like when the white folks first arrived at what is now Denver.
The second memorable event was when we gathered at the 19th floor of Number One Cheesman on October 18 for an afternoon of fellowship and food with many past INC Chairs, which has been a custom approximately every two years. This year, the 40th anniversary of the founding of INC in 1975 was commemorated. Past chairs in attendance were Michael henry, Janey Hanley, Doug Linkhart, Wayne Jochem, Dan DuBois, Elizabeth Hamilton and Steve Nissen plus current president Larry Ambrose and our present E.C. Sending regrets were past chairs, Bernie Jones, Kathie Cheever, Rich Magian, Fred Corn and Karen Cuthbertson. Past chairs and present EC members gave us historic and new perspectives from their/our recalled accomplishments while in office, then we drank and made merry.
Thanks for your activism,
Ray Ehrenstein
