EPA Administrator Testifying re Impact of Relaxed Environmental Laws During Pandemic
Submitted by Ean Tafoya, INC Zoning Committee Co-Chair, GreenLatinos, Colorado Water and Climate Organizer
During this pandemic it was announced the EPA was voluntarily relax the enforcement of environmental laws and regulations on polluters. Just this weekend Suncor had another operational upset that resulted in increased flaring, and they must be expected to report. The latitude to cherry pick polluters for compliance is unacceptable. Especially, in a time when disparity in morbidity is being linked to small particle exposure. GreenLatinos has been calling on the administration and elected leadership to reject rollbacks that further expose frontline communities to toxic pollution of any kind.
At 8 am mst EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler will be testifying in the oversight subcommittee of the US Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee regarding this non enforcement decision.
