A proposal to allow short-term vacation rentals in Denver won the endorsement Wednesday night of the Planning Board, moving the controversial issue formally to the City Council.
That’s where it originated — from a task force led by Councilwoman Mary Beth Susman. Her aim over two years of meetings has been to regulate an industry that’s proliferating in Denver neighborhoods as services such as Airbnb and VRBO have caught fire, despite current law that bars rentals of less than 30 days.

MB Susman brought the STR issue to the ZAP two years ago and was hell bent on changing the ordinance to allow what at this time is an illegal activity in any residential neighborhood. Because of the POOR turnout of RNOs at all of the STR meetings, the AIRBnB “hosts” were overwhelmingly heard from. Shame on RNOs for not representing your neighborhoods better. At the 3/16/16 Planning Board meeting I testified that “this has the propensity of changing the very fabric of Denver Residential neighborhoods”
It is not too late, e-mail abe.barge@denvergov.org and tell him in no uncertain terms that Primary Resident is paramount. cc your councilperson. GET BUSY!!!!!
