At our meeting on March 12th from 6 to 8 p.m. at 1201 Williams Street, all three speakers highlighted projects and plans that we get to hear about early – a preview of a citywide crash study, the RTD fare study prior to public meetings, and CDOT’s statewide plan prior to adoption.

Zones, transfers, and tickets, oh my! The complicated web of RTD’s fare structure may soon be as extinct as the dodo bird. Lacy Bell, RTD Planning Project Manager for Operations, presented RTD’s recommendations to simplify RTD’s fare policy in an equitable and cost-effective manner to better serve the needs of the District and its customers.
The State of Colorado’s multi-modal transportation system — all 23,000 lane miles, 3,400 bridges, and 35 mountain passes — is facing serious challenges: declining revenues met with weakened purchasing power and increased maintenance for aging infrastructure. Congratulation to Geneva Hooten, Co-Chair of Denver INC’s Transportation Committee for helping to spread the word about the value of walking. Walkability affects more than urban planners. According to NBC Nightly News, a twenty minute walk each day increases your chances for a longer, healthier life. Advocating for smart public policies that support pedestrian activity and safety are just one of many ways Denver leaders can pave the way to more healthy “modes” of travel throughout the city. At a recent meeting, the committee also heard a presentation from Walk Denver about ways to advocate for better walkways throughout the city.
