INC has long championed Denver’s sidewalk issues. As early as 2006 Delegate Mary Meyer reported to INC that “Major issues with sidewalks include clarity and enforcement of regulations, installation and maintenance, and funding”
INC Transportation Committee Meeting Notes – January 14th, 2016
by Geneva Hooten
At our meeting on January 14th from 6 to 8 p.m. at 1201 Williams Street, we had a presentation from RTD and a long session with Denver’s Director of Transportation Crissy Fanganello. Thank you to Michael Henry for providing the room for our committee!
Real-Time Transit Info Comes to RTD — Steve Szczecina, RTD Acting Digital Communications Manager
It’s been a long time in the making, but real-time transit information is here. Starting off 2016 with a major accomplishment, RTD now has real-time vehicle location and arrival prediction data for bus service available, and the first developer using it with the Transit App mobile application.
How do we create attractive and inviting places that are functional for different users throughout the day and over the course of changing seasons? How can we transform one of Denver’s most famous streets – 16th Street – into a better place to serve Denver’s ever-changing needs?
Jason Whitlock, Principal City Planner, presented one of three connected studies aimed at activating Denver: The Mall Experience. Jason began by asking: what do we have to learn from other great places? Places like Covent Garden in London or Broadway in New York City. How does 16th Street perform in comparison?
We hope your neighborhood can send a representative to the committee as we discuss a range of transportation, transit, and streets topics, build connections with the agencies and organizations involved, and ensure that neighborhood input is included in plans at all levels! Attendees do not need to be INC delegates — all are welcome. Even if your neighborhood organization is not a member of INC, you are welcome to participate
At our meeting on September 10th from 6 to 8 p.m. at 1201 Williams Street, we had three presentations on a variety of interesting topics. A big thank you to Michael Henry for providing the room for our committee!
eTuk USA: Denver-based Tuk Tuk Manufacturer & eTuk Denver: Local Transportation Provider — Walid Mourtada, CEO
eTuk USA may be the new kid on the block, but they’re here to stay. Based on the Tuk Tuks made ubiquitous in Southeast Asia and parts of South America, Walid Mourtada has created a new transportation option for Denver residents.
On Saturday, September 12th, the Delegation unanimously approved the attached INC Transportation Platform to the Delegation for adoption, following a six-month development process, a detailed review by the full committee, and review and comment by the INC Executive Committee.
The platform covers the wide range of topics discussed in the past three years of the INC Transportation Committee, and the many discussions in the committee and in neighborhoods that have resulted. Starting with a statement of principles that inform the entire document, the document then covers the following subject areas:
Contributed By Steve Nissen…I was privileged to have a personally guided tour by a consultant who is working on the B Line to Westminster. There are currently 32 rail cars parked in the facility just waiting for the lines to open in 2016. At opening time there will be approximately 62 cars in service. Additional cars will be added as additional lines are opened/and or extended. These trains are not to be confused with “light rail” although they may look the same.
