Presidents Message May 2016

For this president’s letter, I realize that many of you don’t really know who I am and what I stand for, so I’m going to take a minute to tell you a bit about myself.
I am a child of Denver. I was born at DGH, I grew up in northwest Denver, and attended elementary –> high school in the DPS schools there.
As my alma mater, North High School’s most famous attendee, Golda Meir, said, “Don’t be so humble – you are not that great.”
I want to let you know that I’ve been a neighborhood and community advocate from early childhood because, well, it’s just the way my mom and dad raised me. Growing up, I was constantly walking the streets, organizing neighbors, going to city meetings with my mom.

It has been my pleasure to serve as President of INC for the past four years and a member of the INC Board since 2007. In agreeing to serve it has been my goal to fundamentally move the organization to actively advocate for neighborhood interests and to empower neighborhood organizations to effect municipal public policy. I believe that this is the role that INC has increasingly served as part of our City’s democratic process.

From The President: Mopping up after a World Championship Victory

For Denver residents, winning the Super Bowl is indeed one more reason we have to be proud of our City. We are proud of its history, its diversity, its climate, its institutions and its culture including its sports teams; K-12, collegiate and professional.
Another thing that has always stood out about which we could be proud was the perception that Denver was a clean city. This was something that was noticeable especially in the spring and summer after a long a dreary winter.

The Straight Poop on Poop to Power- From the President- October 2015

In announcing that that it would not go forward with their plan, the Zoo cited numerous reasons, none of which, of course, included questions raised by Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation or INC’s request for Denver City Council to conduct an in depth, fact-finding hearing to shed light on this complicated issue of major importance. Such a hearing would have likely determined that burning trash and manure was an inappropriate use in Denver’s parks. It is an industrial use which better belongs in an industrial zoned area away from the Zoo’s 4000 animals, the Zoo’s visiting school children, City Park visitors and the thousands of residents who surround the Park.
