To our members:

We are going to cancel the Nov. 20th meeting. We have been in communication with the city in order to bring to ZAP members additional background on Denver’s planning process and how it relates to GES request to reopen the National Western Center Master Plan but the City is not available tomorrow.

By way of refresher, GES Coalition’s Alfonso Espino presented at ZAP on Sept. 23, 2021 and the following motion was approved by those attending the committee meeting (but did not advance at delegate meeting):  “Resolution Endorsing a Mandate that the the Globeville Elyria Swansea Coalition Organizing for Health and Housing Justice’s planning process for the Triangle and a more inclusive discussion process in revising the National Western Center Master Plan.”

We invited Community Planning & Development Executive Director Laura Aldrete to attend Nov. 20th (or send someone from CPD) and discuss the existing National Western Center Master Plan, the planning process in general, and the process for amending or reopening plans. This would provide more specifics for members and enable ZAP to further consider next steps at the NWC Complex.  CPD has not responded specifically to this informational item request, but Laura Aldrete also referred our request regarding the NWC Master Plan and ‘Triangle’ portion to Brad Buchanan, who currently serves as the Exec. Dir. of the NWC Authority. Brad reached out offering to attend on another date (just not Nov. 20th) and indicated he looks forward to hearing INC ZAP’s ideas on best practices for next steps regarding the NWC complex.  Brad indicated he wants to do this in dialogue with GES and the larger Denver community, and we are working on a date to accomplish this.

We know that this is a complex and important city planning discussion and apologize that our goal to have the City and GES for Nov. 20th did not work out.

We also asked Laura Aldrete to attend a future ZAP meeting to share what was accomplished in 2021 and what is in the works for 2022.  Laura indicated she is available to provide this policy overview in January of 2022.
