Auditor Report Helps to Generate Parks Designation Policy From Parks and Recs
Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) intends to adopt its draft “Parks Designation Policy” after a public hearing in November. The proposed policy defines what is a park and what is not a park. More importantly, it clarifies the processes for “Designated” and “Dedicated” parks. Essentially, a Designated park involves Charter recognition, requiring a public vote to change a park’s status (excepting state or federal eminent domain), whereas a Dedicated park is recognized under DPR policies. This proposed policy has been in draft form since 2009. Formalizing the policy was one of the recommendations from the “Citywide Land and Infrastructure Capital Assets” audit released last March.
The public hearing will be held at DPR’s Advisory Board meeting on Wednesday, November 9th at 5:30 pm in room 4.F.6 at the Wellington Webb Municipal Building, 201 West Colfax. Comments can be made at the hearing, or sent to Board members prior to the public hearing.
