INC Introduces New ZAP Co-Chairs
Margie Valdez and Gregory Kerwin As Co-chairs of the INC Zoning and Planning Committee
Margie Valdez has served on the Board of the Golden Triangle Association for over five years. One of the committees established by the GTA bylaws is the Urban Design Committee. This committee is responsible for zoning issues relating to the Triangle. She has been a member of the Urban Design Committee for several years, including the years prior to my service on the board of directors for the GTA. She is also President of the Cultural Arts Residential Organization which is a member organization of INC. She is a retired lawyer having practiced for many years in California.
Her knowledge of Denver’s Liquor and Marijuana laws is extensive and she is the chair of the Special Projects Committee for the Golden Triangle Association. She was on the working task group for revision of the Denver Excise and Licenses Policies and Procedures Manual working closely with former Director, Tom Downey. She is also on the ZAP working group for the Google Library which has been developed for the use of the Neighborhood Associations and has the responsibility for the liquor and marijuana laws, regulations recommended and final decisions, and policy documents for uploading.
She has been an active volunteer for projects, boards, commissions, or associations in the communities or counties in which she has resided. She believes you cannot complain unless you become involved in the processes. She enjoys resolving issues in an amicable fashion when possible and enjoy working with others. Margie thinks Denver is a special place to live and wants the City to be even better.
Gregory Kerwin is a litigation partner in Gibson Dunn’s Denver office, experienced in handling major trials and appeals. He graduated magna cum laude from the Duke University School of Law in 1984. Mr. Kerwin received his bachelor’s degree in history from Colorado College, where he graduated magna cum laude in 1981.Mr. Kerwin handles complex commercial disputes in trial and appellate courts with emphasis on securities, antitrust, and business tort and contract disputes.
He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of the Tenth Circuit Historical Society. He has served on Colorado Bar Association committees and also as a member of the board of trustees of Historic Denver, Inc. and Alliance Française de Denver.
He is a member of Crestmoor Park (2nd Filing) HOA. He has been active in neighborhood issues for many years as a member of his own RNO and worked closely in the 1980’s with Jennifer Moulton when she was President of Historic Denver, before she took over as head of the Denver Planning Department.
He believes that in recent years the City of Denver and its Community Planning and Zoning Department have not obtained timely comments from neighborhood organizations and then made sure that development plans take into account such comments. Part of the problem has been a lack of timely notice from developers or CPD to affected neighborhoods (something he understands Brad Buchanan hopes to change). “The City seems to be on a path of rapid, unplanned growth, with weak transportation infrastructure, that will harm the quality of life for all of its residents.”
