Public Works Seeks Plan Committee Members
Public Works is Seeking 2 to 3 Community Members to Serve on a Solid Waste Management Master Plan Implementation Committee
Denver Public Works/Solid Waste Management is establishing a committee comprised of representatives from City staff, local elected officials, and members of the public that will support Solid Waste Management with the implementation of the 2010 Master Plan for Managing Waste in the Mile High City and support the Office of Sustainability’s materials management goals. The committee will support these efforts by aiding in advocating for funding to make program and service improvements, generating support for new policy initiatives, prioritizing areas of plan implementation, and generating public support for service and policy changes.
The committee will meet monthly for the first six months. Subcommittees may be assigned to work on specific issues. A committee chair and co-chair will be elected by the majority consensus of the group. The initial meetings will focus on committee education about solid waste management in Denver and Colorado so the group has a sound background to make informed decisions. This committee may be asked to develop opinions and position statements, make formal recommendations to the City’s Administration, and work with outside entities to review and support the implementation of the City of Denver’s solid waste master plan. The overarching mission of the committee is to aid and support the City in increasing recycling rates and reducing waste disposal.
The City is seeking interested members of the community to serve on this committee for a minimum commitment of one year. Monthly meetings are expected to average about 2-3 hours in length and will be scheduled at the convenience of the committee but will be scheduled Monday through Friday during business hours.
Interested community members are asked to express their interest in serving on this committee to Charlotte Pitt at the Denver Public Works Solid Waste Management Division at charlotte.pitt@denvergov.org or 303-446-3413.
