Denver’s Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Speaks Out about Inclusivity and Equality
DENVER, June 8, 2020~ INC believes all people regardless of race, religion and mental or economic status be treated equally with respect and dignity by our police and sheriff departments.
We believe all people living in or visiting the City and County of Denver deserve to have confidence that our public safety departments will follow their purpose to serve and protect; that there be a partnership between the departments and citizens to achieve the purpose of service and protection.
We condemn the actions of any safety department that does not stand up to its principles and ignores or participates in violence against any person who is obeying the law.
We recognize there have been continuing inequities in the ways people of color and economic status are treated by our police and sheriff departments. We are asking that a strong training and monitoring program be instituted to address these inequities, a condemnation of law enforcement agencies use of violence and that swift action be taken if it should occur.
George Mayl, INC President stated, “The on-going protests related to George Floyd’s horrific death must serve as a reminder that we must continue our work to create more inclusive environments for our neighborhoods,” Mayl also said, “As an umbrella advocacy group for all of Denver’s registered neighborhoods, we have a responsibility to ensure we are actionably doing our part to foster inclusivity and equality as well as to represent the voices of all our registered neighborhood members. Our bylaws speak for our standards.”
