Board Meeting Minutes

February 10, 2020 – Daniels Fund Building

Meeting called to order by George Mayl at 6:37 pm

Board Minutes

Motion was made to accept January 13, 2020 Board minutes – Steve Nissen moved and Jane Potts seconded; approved unanimously, no abstentions.

Treasurer Report-Steve Nissen

Motion to accept treasurer’s report was made by Jane Potts; Hank Bootz seconded. Report approved unanimously.

Old Business – George Mayl

Education Committee

George Mayl and Amy Duclos introduced Ben Wilson, Financial Analyst, who on behalf of INC has done some DPS database analysis pursuant to open records

Between 2014 and 2019

• Total positions have increased 12.2%
• Total salaries have increased 19.3%
• Total teacher positions have increased 14.0%
• Pupils/teacher position have decreased 6.2%
• Total teacher salaries per pupil have increased 4.9%

Discussion ensued how to get this information out and what else to investigate, e. g. how 2016 bond money was spent, salaries of charter school teachers versus traditional teachers; who is included in sub-categories of non-teachers.

Dinner Committee-Jane Potts

• Dinner attendance at 215
• Still need bios for awardees
• 10 stars, 4 special awards
• Discussion as to whether the awards should be moved up on the program before committee reports/accomplishments – no motion; unanimous “yes”

New Business

• Hank Bootz requested we look at getting 4 new microphones as two were not working properly as last delegates meeting. Phil Hainline estimates the cost will be in the $300 range. Hank will ask Phil to explore.
• Steve Nissen suggested he thought it might be a good time to look at getting a parliamentarian to give the board a training. Executive Committee members to see what they can find out in the way of cost; could be part of a delegates meeting after the elections.
