September 14 NPI Forum – Cindy Johnstone
Format established, scripts prepared, venue is well equipped with audio visual
Moderator is Jamie Giellis
No committee reports to be done because venue needs us out before noon
Phil Hainline will videotape
Meeting with Mayor – September 19
Tight timeline, introductions, specific questions important. Suggestions:
Buchanan CPD left a year ago- where are you with the search process?
We want open space. Zoning is not including green space. Permeable materials in use are not part of planning. Building code
How will you help institute financial literacy training into DPS
Side note: Each committee may submit statements about their efforts for insertion by TV8 as filler content. Be sure INC logo and full name of committee and INC appear on each submission.
Reimagine RTD – Joel Noble
RTD is embarking on 2 year re-do. Denver depends on transit working well. They have citizens advisory group and Joel requests that someone from INC Transportation Committee be appointed to this effort and it is important to get it now or we won’t have influence. (Letter to RTD re this discussion submitted September 18, 2019)
Request: RTD needs ramps and curb cuts for wheelchair bound persons
Transportation Committee: Meets September 12 to discuss traffic safety, Vision Zero. They are Updating their INC platform; Looking for co chair
Zoning & Planning ZAP – Christine O’Connor
Loretto heights – ZAP submitted a resolution related to the re-development at Loretto Heights. There was not enough time to get to delegates to vote.
Denver Decides – George Mayl
Denver Decides is an entity comprised of League of Women Voters, TV8, Denver Historical Society and INC
Oct 2 – South HS for Candidates forum begins at 6pm
Oct 12 – Arrupe Jesuit HS – Ballot forum which is also INC’s regular delegate meeting
2020 Census
Jane Potts attended two Census meetings to see if INC would qualify for a grant to help promote the importance of census participation. Our format doesn’t work well for that effort. The main importance is census determines how much Federal money comes back to our community.
Education Committee – Amy Duclos
- School board election and how perception of dark money
- Karen Taylor and George working on questions for lightening round
- Amy is no longer campaign manager for DPS candidate
- Delivered thermometers to classrooms to challenge the non air-conditioned conditions in schools. Local TV picked up the story – Channel 7
- TRACER– State site where all campaign moneys are traced
- Out of state special interests are buying elections for DPS
- What type of influence is the dark money buying? Privatization of schools
- Increased student count over 16%. Central administration has increased over 100%
General Discussion
Very frank discussion initiated by Joel Noble about how we treat each other within the leadership ranks; outside opinions see us as having personal agendas rather than advocacy for all neighborhoods.
- Is INC viable? What is our focus?
- Our best formats are well-marketed forums with specific big topics.
- Do we need monthly meetings?
- Are we stuck in old technology?
Meeting adjourned 8:30pm
