Transportation Special Tours and Events
Tour of Civic Center Station Redevelopment Fri. Jan. 27th, 11am and Noon – Spaces Limited!
By special arrangement with the on-site project management, we have two tours arranged for next week, on Friday January 27th at 11am and at noon, to see the site now that demolition is complete. We will also visit the construction trailer to see the plans for the new Civic Center Station and discuss the design and construction phasing. We have been asked to limit each group to ten people, to ensure tour safety, so we will be holding a first-come, first-served sign up by e-mail.
To sign up, please write to transportation@denverinc.org, indicate whether you would like to join the 11am or Noon tour, and we will reply with a confirmation. We hope you can join us!
As the project progresses into future phases, we will schedule additional tours.
Human Transit Book Discussion
The Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation’s Transportation Committee has joined with Transit Alliance to read Human Transit: How Clearer Thinking about Public Transit Can Enrich Our Communities and Our Lives by Jarrett Walker with Denver citizens.
As you may already know, Jarrett Walker is an international consultant in public transit planning and policy who is serving as a consultant on the Denver Moves: Transit plan. The book Human Transit explains the aspects of transit that shape successful systems, the process for fitting technology to a community, and the local choices that lead to transit-friendly cities.
This is a great opportunity to start thinking about what a great transit system could be as we prepare for this year’s public participation on Denver Moves: Transit, part of the Denveright planning process. Loaner books are available.
We have set up two track choices in February/March, each hosted by TA’s Kathleen Osher and INC’s Joel Noble:
- Track 1 will meet February 7 (first half of book) and February 21 (second half of book) from 6:00-7:30pm each night
- Track 2 will meet February 28 (first half of book) and March 14 (second half of book) from 6:00-7:30pm each night
All discussion sessions will be at The Alliance Center, 1536 Wynkoop Street, and there will be snacks.

Vision Zero Love-In: Tell the Mayor We Want Safe Speeds on Our Streets
On Valentine’s Day, Tuesday February 14th, between 11am and 1pm, come to a positive rally calling for safe speeds on our streets at the steps of the City and County Building.
Just over a year ago, INC joined with many other nonprofits and commissions to advocate for Denver’s adoption of the Vision Zero goal: to bring traffic-related deaths and serious injuries to zero. 61 people died in crashes in 2016 in Denver, and many hundreds were seriously injured — the problem is very real. The INC Transportation Platform identified the Vision Zero goal as a moral imperative for our city. With the Mayor’s commitment to this goal, and are now working to make it a reality.
This year, we are asking for a focus on safe speeds, with specific trial projects that moderate speeds through our neighborhoods and on our corridors, with these three specific requests:
- Commit to implementing an annual program that funds safe speed projects throughout the City, starting with the 2018 budget.
- Test the effectiveness of various street design treatments for safe vehicle speeds through demonstration projects on residential, main street and mixed use streets (two or more of each), implemented in 2017.
- Adopt formal guidelines in 2018 to guide safe speeds on streets throughout the City, based on the outcomes of the demonstration projects.
If you’ve been asking drivers to “Drive Chill” or to drive through our community “like your children live here,” if you know someone whose life has been changed by a crash, or if you simply believe that our increasing road fatality and injury rate has to be addressed, please join us or show your support by signing our online petition.
More information about the event, and the online petition are at www.walkdenver.org/2017lovein/
