  • Introduction to New DOTI Executive Director Adam Phipps
We’re excited to meet with Adam Phipps, DOTI’s new Executive Director following his recent confirmation to the role by City Council. In this introduction, we’ll hear about his goals for the department, top priorities, and his vision for how we realize our Vision Zero and mode shift goals.  As always, there will be time for Q&A as we build this important relationship.
  • Pedestrian Dignity – Jonathon Stalls on Building Pedestrian Advocacy
Jonathon Stalls is helping new and existing pedestrian advocates to be effective in reaching elected officials and contacts in departments and agencies. Through his Pedestrian Dignity videos on TikTok, he shows from a human perspective the dire state of our infrastructure, and what it’s like to be a real person trying to move safely.  This highly visceral and grounded approach has led to walks with elected and appointed government leaders and their staff members, seeing the real state of things through the experience of those walking and rolling. We’ll hear about Jonathon’s current efforts and his advice for us as we advocate in our neighborhoods and groups.
  • Residential Parking Permit Policy Update – Scott Burton, DOTI Principal City Planner
The City’s approach to managing the Residential Parking Permit program is evolving. Curbside resources are under increasing demand as the City balances on-street bicycle and transit lane needs with curbside access and parking demand. This demand, coupled with City transportation priorities, underscores the importance of creating an equitable and efficient Residential Parking Permit Program while providing on-street parking options for all users.
  • Fourth topic awaiting confirmation

Apply for the Denver Streets Partnership’s spring Advocacy Academy
by March 21

Join the Denver Streets Partnership’s Advocacy Academy: an eight-week certificate program to give you the tools, expertise, experience, and connections to be a mobility leader. All ages are welcome. (If you’re under 18, ask your parent’s or guardian’s permission.)

The spring 2022 academy runs April 4-May 23 with a combination of online classes and in-the-field work. You and your fellow academy members will advocate around timely public transit decisions this spring such as RTD’s Fare and Pass Study, the Reimagine RTD process, the rollout of federal funding from the recently passed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and Denver Moves Everyone 2050. The DSP coalition is made up of a diverse group of partners, and you’ll learn from the best. The curriculum will give you the tools to make a difference in your neighborhood and in Colorado. And we’ll have fun!

You’ll learn about:

  • The most effective strategies for improving the safety of our streets
  • Time-tested grassroots skills like working with the media, coalition building, lobbying and community mobilization
  • How to cut through red tape to get better sidewalks and bike lanes in your neighborhood
  • The keys to affordable and accessible transit, and more

This program is open to people who live within the RTD District Area. There is no cost to participate in the program. $1,000 stipends are available for participants. Space is limited to 12 participants for the spring 2022 session.
