  • Update on the I-25/Broadway Interchange – Amy Kenreich, West Wash Park Neighborhood Association President & Brittany Spinner, Lincoln Street Community RNO VP
In January, the INC Transportation Committee forwarded a motion to the INC delegation in support of the West Wash Park Neighborhood Association and Lincoln Street Community RNO call for changes to the I-25/Broadway interchange plan. Since then, DOTI has proposed a number of changes, and has signaled that it is willing to explore not rebuilding a ramp that would demolish homes from the project scope. We’ll hear an update on the discussions with DOTI, known changes so far, and prospects for further changes to address the issues the community has been raising over the last several years.
  • Outdoor Places Program – Brad Johnson, CPD Principal City Planner
The Outdoor Places Program is moving quickly, so we’re getting an update on their next phase. As a reminder, Outdoor Places has the goal of allowing more flexibility in creating outdoor spaces for commercial activity “Activated” spaces below the curb (in the street), above the curb, and on private property — or a mix of locations. Since our last update, they have released the final “Above the Curb” requirements document, and are now focusing on developing the draft allowances for patios on private property. This has transportation relevance for its connection to the public realm and re-use of existing off-street parking spaces. The draft zoning code changes for this are open for a 30-day review period through March 27th, so this is a very timely topic for our committee.
  • Introducing Greater Denver Transit – James Flattum and Richard Bamber
Denver’s newest transit advocacy group is very active!  We’ll get to know Greater Denver Transit with an introduction by its two leads, James Flattum and Richard Bamber.  GDT has recently been active in RTD policy matters (such as RTD’s rush to implement a new “code of conduct” without community input, which the Board has thankfully paused), providing GDT’s own very-detailed vision for reworking how buses route through downtown, and providing input to the emerging Front Range Passenger Rail.  If you enjoyed the book club reading Jarrett Walker’s Human Transit a few years ago, or if you want to focus on advocate for transit that works for all, get to know Greater Denver Transit.
  • Denver Moves Everyone 2050- Riley LaMie, DOTI Principal City Planner
Denver Moves Everyone has released its public review draft, as widely announced, and the public review and comment period has just ended. We’ll hear from Riley LaMie about the types of comments they’ve received and what the immediate next steps will be. As the city’s strategic transportation plan, Denver Moves Everyone prioritizes the major investments based on their community, network, Vision Zero, and other priorities, informed by funding availability. Riley will give our highly-interested group some insights into how the prioritization worked this time, and how all these considerations will prioritize projects into the future.
