A transplant from Michigan, he showed up one night at a monthly meeting of the WPENA Board of Directors and asked to join the Board. Tim McHugh has been the Board President of Washington Park East Neighborhood Association since 2015.
As a retired doctor and veteran Tim could have easily relaxed and enjoyed retirement without complication. The fact that he chooses to take on the responsibilities of being a leader in the neighborhood with taking on two board chair positions in impressive.
Among his many duties, he sets the agenda for the Board, gathers information and questions from the city and communicates them to the Board and to the public, directs discussion of issues (one of his favorite expressions is “there are two sides to every issue”), supports other Board members and attends meetings on issues of citywide concern.
He is also the Board President of FANS (Friends and Neighbors of Washington Park), a sister RNO representing Washington Park that works with Parks and Recreation to provide volunteers to help improve and maintain the park. He coordinates WPENA with FANS to support each other and avoid duplicating or conflicting.
Tim is a tireless advocate for the neighborhood, the park and the residents of Washington Park East. In addition to providing leadership to the Washington Park East Neighborhood Association
and the Friends and Neighbors of Washington Park, he is truly a “boots on the ground” person, showing up at events hosted by WPENA and FANS, manning booths, setting up tables and tents for events, and directing the annual Fourth of July event at Washington Park.
He steered the WPENA through COVID 19, moving to online Board meetings and initiating a monthly emailer to our 3400 households.
