INC Counsels Caution in Denver’s New “Shared Economy”
At the March 14th delegate meeting, Denver INC supported a resolution which urges the Mayor and City Council to thoughtfully consider all the implications for Denver citizens and potential detrimental effects on the social and cultural fabric of Denver’s residential neighborhoods. The passing resolution, which was altered from an earlier, more strongly worded version, also requests more transparency and a stronger voice for neighborhood interests on the Sharing Economy Task Force. READ the RESOLUTION
This resolution reflects several months of work by the Zoning and Planning (ZAP) committee to highlight this issue. In the past several months, Denver INC and ZAP have offered a focus and forum on issues confronting the city with our new “shared economy.” February’s Delegate Meeting brought together a panel discussion on the potential legislation, and helped air neighborhood concerns with short-term tenants. Councilwoman Sussman was on hand, as leader of the city’s efforts to allow web-based businesses like AirBnB to operate within and under supervision of the law. There are implications for car-shares or any new innovations that may come along, so ultimately the framework could help or hurt Denver’s economy as a whole. The minutes are published in the March newsletter and can be read by clicking HERE (SCROLL to summary at bottom of page 6)
INC is proud to give voice to our neighborhoods in this important discussion.
